Genesis 3:6
In this reading, Eve was the first to be convinced by the lies and twisted variation of God’s words. Then she presented this “new truth” to Adam as they both partook of the fruit. Makes you think, “how could they disobey God after he personally spoke into their lives the consequences of disobedience?” One thought is that they knew what not to do but didn’t know why not to do it. I mean, other than God saying they will die, they probably thought “what’s so bad about eating this fruit?”. Besides, did they really know about dying? What was “death” to them? They didn’t know about death. Who died or what died around them yet? Its like explaining rain to man before the flood at the time with Noah and the Ark. What’s “rain”? Verse 6 in Genesis says that Eve was “convinced” by Satan. (Food for thought, why did Satan approach Eve and not Adam first? God told Adam not to eat of the Tree of Good and Evil, not Eve. Which probably means Adam had to relay what God has told him. Which probably means it was easier to convince Eve than Adam being Adam was directly spoken to by God himself. Anyway, that’s just my theory.) I believe, not just “believing, but knowing the truth, will preserve us from believing lies. Paul was speaking to the Corinthians when he said, “But I fear that somehow you will be led away from your pure and simple devotion to Christ, just as Eve(early man) was deceived by the serpent. You seem to believe whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach about a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed. “ 2 Corinthians 11:3-4.
Verses Prayer:
I pray that we not just obey your word “brainlessly”, leaving ourselves susceptible to any “new truths”, but LEARN your word so it produces life in us and we may produce life in others by being able to differentiate the truth from fiction! AMEN
